On what was a mixed day weather-wise on Saturday, 21st May, 2011, the Waterford Adventure Race swept through the beautiful countryside of West Waterford, culminating in a most impressive victory for Gerard Conlon from Carrick-on-Suir. He completed the course in a record 3hrs 12mins and even had enough energy left for an interview by Nationwide who were covering the event for a programme to be aired soon. First lady home in just over 4 hours was Deirdre Keane from Stradbally.

Participants were welcomed by a beautiful and varied countryside for the race, ranging from the majestic trees in Glenshalane Forest to the wind swept hills of the Vee to the meandering Blackwater River. A full range of participants hugely enjoyed the experience, ranging in finishing times from just over three hours up to six hours and a great sense of achievement was felt by one and all. Several people got wet kayaking down the Blackwater but this didn’t dampen their spirits and they were in jovial spirit by the time they sat down to enjoy their post race grub afterwards in Melleray Community Hall.

The main question on people’s minds was when is it on next year. To answer all those queries, it will go ahead on Saturday, 19th May, 2012 so get in training now! Further details of this year’s event can be seen at www.waterfordadventurerace.com.
